Chapter 40: THE PRESENT
LORENZO’S P.O.V.
The first thing I did the very next day was to show Leo the picture. He was with Carmen when I walked into the room and I noticed that she was avoiding my eye. I was used to people being scared of me but there was something about her fear that rubbed at me the wrong way. She was with my son all the time, I didn’t need her cowering and terrified every time I breathed near her.
“Cut it out,” I whispered in her direction and her spine straightened. She looked like a marble statue and for a second, I wondered if she would shatter if I pushed her over. I ignored her and turned to Leo. “I need you to see if you can recognize someone for me.”
“Okay.” He seemed eager to help and I handed him the pictures. He looked at the man in the suit then pushed it away but when he got to the homeless man, his eyes widened. “I know him, he would come to see Mum a few times. He always smelled funny and he was the one with the gun. Mum always said not to touch it.”
