Before Giselle could utter another word, a bodyguard surged forward, clamping a hand over her mouth and swiftly carrying her away.
Henry recognized the woman in distress; she was Giselle’s grandmother.
As the bodyguard escorted the group downstairs, Henry issued a careful directive, “Take care with her—her heart is weak. Escort her back by boat.”
“Grandma, someone came into the house...” Chase Carter began, but he was abruptly silenced by a bodyguard who grabbed him and muffled his cries with a firm hand.
In the narrow, cramped corridor, Henry and Chase’s eyes met, tension crackling in the air laden with the scent of gunpowder.
After a tense moment, Henry let out a derisive chuckle. “You overestimate yourself. If you’re so eager to ruin your future, I’m more than happy to accommodate you.”
With a slight nod, the bodyguard understood and dragged Chase down the hallway.
