Elaine gazed at the harried shop assistant, a sardonic smile curving her lips.
At times, her curiosity got the better of her, and she would scrutinize the items in the shop window a tad more intently than necessary. But before she knew it, Jackman's voice would resound behind her, demanding her attention.
"Pardon me, miss. Kindly wrap this up," Jackman repeated several times, the items Elaine had been eyeing already piling up on the counter.
The spectacle drew the attention of bystanders, causing Elaine to feel a little self-conscious.
"It's quite a lot, isn't it?" Elaine remarked with a hint of annoyance.
Jackman smirked in response, nonchalant about Elaine's complaint. "Oh, it's not much. Perhaps you'll find a use for it someday."
Feeling a tad embarrassed by Jackman's attentiveness, Elaine was unused to someone caring for her in this manner.
Her instincts urged her to maintain her independence, so she wouldn't be beholden to anyone later.
