CHAPTER NINETY-TWO - Confronting the Ex

Claire closed her eyes, fighting back tears. "I don't know if we can fix this, Mason. I don't know if I can trust you anymore." "Please," Mason pleaded. "Just give me a chance to prove myself. We can go to the board together, present the evidence against Veronica. We can clear our names and save the company." Claire shook her head. "It's not just about the company anymore, Mason. It's about us. I need... I need some time to think. To figure out what I want." Mason looked devastated, but he nodded. "I understand. But Claire, please know that I love you. Only you. Whatever it takes, I'll make this right." As he turned to leave, Claire felt a pang in her chest. Part of her wanted to call him back, to fall into his arms and believe that everything would be okay. But the rational part of her knew that they needed this space. She needed to clear her head and decide what she truly wanted. The door closed behind Mason, and Sarah emerged from the kitchen.
