CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX - A Misunderstanding
Back at the apartment, Claire headed to the kitchen. "I think I'll make some pasta for dinner. Would you like some?"
Mason hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Sure, that sounds good. Can I help?"
They worked side by side in the kitchen, the familiar routine of chopping vegetables and boiling water helping to ease the tension. As they sat down to eat, the conversation flowed more naturally, touching on the art they had seen and steering clear of more personal topics.
After dinner, as they cleaned up, Mason said, "Thanks for suggesting the exhibition, Claire. It was nice to get out and clear my head a bit."
Claire smiled, feeling a warmth in her chest. "I'm glad you enjoyed it. And... thanks for coming with me. I know things have been a bit strained between us."
Mason leaned against the counter, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, about that. I think we both got caught up in our own stress and forgot that we're supposed to be on vacation."
