CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIVE - RAINSTORM PICNIC PRANKS
As darkness fell, they decided to make the most of their impromptu camping experience. Mason gathered some dry wood from under the tree and built a small fire, while Claire spread out their now-damp blanket nearby.
"Look what I found at the bottom of the basket," Mason said with a grin, producing a slightly squashed bag of marshmallows.
They spent the evening roasting marshmallows over the crackling fire, taking turns holding Henry and pointing out constellations as the stars emerged in the clear night sky.
"You see that bright one there, buddy?" Mason said softly to Henry, who was fighting to keep his eyes open. "That's the North Star. Sailors used to use it to find their way home."
Claire watched them, her heart full. This day hadn't gone according to plan – nothing on this trip had, really – but somehow, it was perfect.
