Sure enough, the town square was decked out in colorful banners and twinkling lights. A stage had been set up, and a sign proclaimed it was the annual "Oakville Talent Extravaganza."
"Want to check it out?" Mason asked, a mischievous glint in his eye.
Claire nodded, already feeling more relaxed than she had in months. As they approached the crowd gathered around the stage, they overheard a frantic conversation.
"What do you mean they can't make it?" a woman in a floral dress was saying. "They were our opening act!"
An older man shook his head. "Car trouble. They're stuck two towns over."
Without thinking, Claire stepped forward. "Excuse me, but did you say you need an opening act?"
The woman turned, eyeing Claire and Mason with interest. "Why, yes. Do you know anyone who can perform?"
Mason cleared his throat. "Well, I've been known to juggle a bit."
