CHAPTER NINETEEN - The First Date
"But with great power comes great responsibility," Mason continued, his tone growing serious. "As we push the boundaries of what's possible, we must never lose sight of the ethical implications of our work. Our goal should not be to replace humanity, but to augment and empower it."
As Mason's speech drew to a close, the audience erupted in thunderous applause. Claire found herself on her feet, clapping enthusiastically, a surge of pride welling up inside her.
After the speech, Mason was immediately surrounded by well-wishers and reporters. Claire hung back, not wanting to intrude, but Mason's eyes sought her out in the crowd. With a few polite words, he extricated himself and made his way to her side.
"So," he said, a hint of nervousness in his voice. "What did you think?"
Claire beamed at him. "Mason, that was... incredible. You were incredible."
The relief and joy that spread across Mason's face made Claire's heart skip a beat. "Really? I'm so glad you enjoyed it."
