CHAPTER FIFTEEN - A Tense Dinner
As the evening wore on, Claire found herself laughing more than she had in months. Mason's dry wit and self-deprecating humor were a refreshing change from the cutthroat atmosphere of her office.
"You know," she said as they walked back to the apartment, the streets of Paris glowing in the twilight, "I'm actually glad we got double-booked."
Mason raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And here I thought you were counting down the days until you could have the place to yourself again."
Claire laughed, nudging him with her shoulder. "Well, maybe I've changed my mind. You're not half bad company, Mason Steele."
As they reached the apartment, a comfortable silence fell between them. Claire found herself reluctant to say goodnight, a realization that both thrilled and terrified her.
"Thanks for tonight," she said softly as they stood in the hallway. "I really needed it."
