"Oh, Camilla, it's you," Frankie said after she was done staring at me.
"Yes. Is Justin home?" I asked her, hoping that he would be. I knew how busy I would be when I would leave. Messages and calls—I barely do that these days—but I felt like I was not being nice to Justin.
"He went to the grocery store nearby," Frankie told me. "He'll be back before you know it. If you want, you can come sit down and wait for him."
"Okay," I agreed. Frankie shifted back, letting me in. I gave her a little smile and went to settle down on a couch. Frankie and I had never been friends, but we weren't on bad terms either. And I had to wonder if we were about to get into a reasonable conversation. If we do, good. Suppose we don't, okay. No big deal, anyway.
Frankie sat on the couch opposite mine. She looked up at me, ready to start a conversation. "Camilla, there's something I really need to know. Then I'm glad you came here to clarify things for me."
