James waved goodbye to Abigail. After that, he happily skipped to the classroom with the headphones that Hazel had picked out for him.
Hazel rested her cheek on her palm and studied James with his headphones. "You never struck me as particularly good-looking, but you look fly with those headphones. You're even hotter than Oliver and Shawn."
James chirped, "I guess the birthday gift from my aunt added to my coolness."
"Repeat that again, and omit 'I guess'," demanded Hazel.
They sat in the last row of the classroom. Hazel prodded, "Did Abby settle down well last night at home?"
"I didn't ask her."
She asked again, "Did you help Abby prepare her room?"
"Nope."
She stared at her deadbeat nephew. "James, please be more thoughtful. There's only so much Grace and I can do for you. You'll end up going on blind dates if this keeps up."
He replied with disdain, "Quit it. Lecture me again when you sort out your relationship."
