Shawn waited until he heard the footsteps at the door fade away before unbuttoning his shirt and heading to the shower.
Shawn had planned to visit the hospital at 9:00 am the next morning. However, with Hazel still not ready, they only managed to leave at 10:00 am.
At 9:00 am, Elizabeth pointed at her daughter, who had just woken up and said to Shawn, "Just go by yourself. She's going to take forever to get ready. Look at her—face unwashed, hair uncombed, still in her PJs. Don't bother waiting."
Shawn stood in the living room with his hands on his hips, his face dark with irritation as he silently watched Hazel rush to get ready. When they finally got in the car, her stomach growled loudly.
She met Shawn's gaze and said sheepishly, "Shawn, I had no idea getting ready would take so long."
"If you'd gotten up an hour earlier, we could have left on time, and you would have had breakfast," Shawn replied, driving off without addressing her hunger.
She then reached for his water bottle
