"Oh, right. Just give me half an hour, Shawn," Hazel said.
Shawn was in the courtyard with his parents early in the morning at the Prescott residence.
"I washed the car yesterday when I picked Hazel up from school. But now, we're heading back to our hometown. With all the dust on the roads, I probably washed it for nothing."
Elizabeth laughed. "After you return, make Hazel clean it again."
"Oh, come on, Mom, you know Hazel. My car is white. If she gets her hands on it, who knows what color it'll turn into."
Elizabeth recalled an incident from Hazel's childhood.
Once, Charlie had driven the company car home after a visit to a rural township, and the car was covered in mud. With the best of intentions, Hazel had offered to wash the car.
