Oliver handed her a fork.
"Next time you come to see me, just use my private elevator. You can avoid the crowd."
Grace nodded in response.
Oliver didn't expose her lie because he wanted to protect her dignity. Even though he knew she wasn't telling the truth, he chose to believe her. He felt like he was bewitched.
He smiled through his entire meal.
On the other hand, Grace found the food tasteless. Her mind was occupied with the thought of her lying earlier.
Suddenly, a knock on the door came, followed by Robert's familiar voice.
"Mr. Jefferson."
Grace turned her head toward the door.
Oliver put down his cutlery and called out, "Come in."
Robert soon entered, carrying a few bags of cat food.
"Mr. Jefferson, your kitten is here, right? I figured since you've never taken care of a pet, I'd bring over some of the cat food I got for mine."
He placed the four bags on the office floor and greeted Grace as he stood up.
"Hello, Mrs. Jefferson."
