"Hush, Dad. Let's see how long he can sit," Oliver said, sneaking a glance at Cliff from the side.
Naturally, he would never truly ignore the little one, but he had noticed a little habit of Cliff's.
Whenever his parents or elders were around, Cliff whined, cried, and demanded to be carried. But when left alone on the couch, he simply sat there without fussing or crying. He would only glance around every now and then.
Oliver placed Cliff down and stepped back just far enough that he wouldn't sense his presence, but close enough to intervene if needed.
Peter had stepped out for a moment, and somehow, the entire family had abandoned their cherry jam and wine-making efforts to gather in the living room.
All eyes were now on the tiny figure perched on the couch, his round face filled with determination as he scanned the room for familiar faces. He was sitting perfectly still and surprisingly steady.
