"Brenda, why do you look so down?" Yasmin glanced at the unappetizing late-night snacks on the table. "Want to order some barbecue instead?"
Brenda shook her head and let out a long sigh. "I'm upset because my ugly husband is coming home. My good days are over."
Yasmin, trying to be fair, said, "But Mr. Howard isn't ugly, is he?"
Brenda gave a blunt evaluation of George, whom she barely knew. "He's too rough and not my type."
Brenda was known for her refined taste and delicate preferences, so men like George were exactly the kind she couldn't stand.

That night, before going to bed, Yasmin once again attempted to remove the bracelet from her wrist. Once again, she failed.
Just as she was about to give up, she noticed something faintly visible on the inside of the bracelet.
She held it to the light and saw an engraved word—Minnie.
The engraving was in Scriptina font. It carried a sharp, almost forceful edge, a style that was unmistakably Caleb's.
