For Nikolai, the notion of sharing a rational conversation with Viktor, without the urge to hurl him out of a window, was inconceivable. Yet, here was Viktor, sitting across from him, fixated on a particular blood pearl.
"It belonged to Aunt Tiana," Viktor exhaled softly, his gaze unwavering.
"And how did you discover that?" Nikolai asked, cutting straight to business rather than indulging in nostalgia.
"Yulia," Viktor replied quietly, a hint of hesitation in his voice.
The mention of Yulia darkened Nikolai's expression. "She would want to understand my motives before acting. I didn’t expect her to divulge that."
Viktor nodded slowly. "Until I managed to persuade her, that was her plan."
"You certainly have your methods," Nikolai hissed, shaking his head in disapproval.
