Ophelia decided against imprisoning the gods who had stormed her castle. Instead, she allowed them to leave and submit their reports. Despite her awareness of the assassination attempt, she had not expected them to breach her palace so forcefully. Her instincts, however, had warned her otherwise. Given the complexity and sophistication of her castle’s defenses, she had instructed her guards and maids to admit the intruding assassins rather than to deter them.
Seated on a plush cushion in one of the castle’s intimate sitting rooms, Ophelia's anger was palpable. Her hands were clenched into fists as she stared at the floor, her frustration evident. “We just have a few minutes more,” she muttered, her voice tinged with irritation.
Nikolai, standing nearby, watched her with a disapproving gaze. “You should have let me deal with them,” he suggested, his tone curt.
Ophelia shot him a sharp glance. “I do not want blood to be spilled unnecessarily.”
