The words Viktor spoke seemed to cut through Ophelia with a jarring clarity, as though he were recounting a particularly dark and unsettling chapter from the past. A past she could not recall, no matter how hard she tried.
"Why was I never informed about the physical conflict on the battlefield?" she asked, her voice soft, almost drowned out by the shock and confusion that gripped her.

"Nikolai stabbed me?" Her voice trembled, tinged with fear and disbelief.
"No, no," Viktor replied quickly, his tone trying to soothe her rising panic. "He... he was in tears while you lay there, unconscious and covered in blood."
