Chapter 3 The Boy With the Golden Eyes

Ryan "No, to the right." I shouted, holding on fiercely to the control in my hands as if it was a lifeline as I fixed my blue eyes on the screen. It was a lifeline. I couldn't afford to lose this game to Adam again, I had lost to him four times already and my pride was stung. I sighed as he won the game and dropped the control on the chair, my shoulders sagging with defeat. Adam laughed at me, his shoulders shaking as he pointed at me. "Sorry, man. You know I'm better than you are in this game." I narrowed my eyes at him, not sure that he was my best friend at that moment. He was acting more like the devil. "Shut it," I said, sulking. "Oh, you are sulking. What a beautiful sight." I burst out laughing. "Asshole." "I know. I also know you can't do without this asshole." "Right." I smiled. "I wonder why you are getting more arrogant lately." He snorted. "The girls think you are more arrogant than I am." "Don't mind the girls." I snorted. "You never mind the girls but I do. What do you want me to do with Rochelle if I don't mind the girls?" He grinned. "Uh!" I groaned with distaste. "You don't have to rub your relationship in my face. She is my sister, man." I reminded him. He snorted. "It bothers you that I'm in a relationship and not because I'm dating your sister." "Both bothers me actually." I confessed. "I can't still believe you are with my sister. I wonder everytime how you guys ended up together despite how much I tried to keep her away from you." "Love knows no boundaries." He grinned. "You would have known that if you were in a relationship or ever been in one." "I'm not interested in one." "Is that why you always keep me away from your sister even when you found out that she had a crush on me? You wanted me to pledge the code of the forever single." I snorted. "I didn't want you to date Rochelle because I was afraid it would affect us. You might not want to spend more time with me and prefer to be with her anytime you are in our house and you might not want to be friends with me again if the two of you break up." "We aren't breaking up. I love Rochelle too much to let go of her heart." "That feels assuring." "I love you too, Adam." Rochelle said as she walked in to join us. I groaned at her presence. Perfect. Just what I needed. Having those two lovebirds in the same room with me was bound to drive me crazy. What a torment. "Hey, babe." Adam grinned at Rochelle and wrapped his hands around her waist as she settled down on his laps. "Hi," she smiled at him, giving him a brief kiss on the lips. "Guys, I'm still here." I reminded them. "Did you forget your elder brother is here, Rochelle?" I turned to her. "He is always jealous." She chuckled, settling more comfortably in Adam's legs. I winced. I didn't want to think of what the two of them did anytime they were alone. I might punch Adam if I think too much. I didn't doubt that I would have punched him a lot if he wasn't my best friend and I trusted him, even with Rochelle's heart. "Single people are always pained like that." Adam chuckled. "I'm not pained because I'm single, it's because my best friend and baby sister are acting like this in my sight." I pointed at her sitting on his laps. "We should give you something else to focus on." She said. "What are you thinking of?" Adam asked. "We should find him a girlfriend. He wouldn't have the time to be obsessed with us if he is busy with her." "I don't need a girlfriend." I snorted. "Well, I need you to have one." Rochelle snapped at me, her eyes shining with amusement. "With being the best athlete in school and one of the favorite students of the teachers in school, I don't have the time to ask a girl out." I said with pride. Rochelle smirked. "You are always arrogant, brother. Do you know how hard I work in school at being a gentle and polite girl to redeem the image of our family?" "I didn't ask you to." I chuckled. "You don't work hard to be gentle and polite, girl. That is what you are." Adam said and kissed her on the cheek. "I know, right?" She grinned at him. "I'm an angel. I wonder how I got a brother who gives me headaches." I rolled my eyes at the two of them. "He really needs a girlfriend." Adam agreed as he saw me rolling my eyes. He turned to me. "You don't have to ask a girl out before having a girlfriend. There is one girl who wouldn't mind being your girlfriend." "Don't say her name." I winced. "Mia," Adam and Rochelle said, laughing. "The two of you are assholes." I glared at them. "We know and that is why we are a match made for each other." Adam grinned. I rolled my eyes and shook my head in despair. "You are both worse than I thought." "Rochelle! Ryan! Adam!" I heard mum's voice calling for us. "I think mum is done with cooking lunch." Rochelle smiled and jumped off Adam's legs. "Let's go." "Sure." Adam said, jumping off the chair and walked out with her, the two of them holding hands. I sighed. Those two would break my heart one day before a girl got to do that. I froze as I got to the dining room and saw the person I didn't want to see. "What are you doing here?" I hissed at her, taking the seat that was far away from her. "Don't be rude to your guest, Ryan." Mum hissed at me. "I taught you better than that, boy." "I didn't ask her to be here." I replied. "Don't mind him, Mia." Mum said. "I don't know who taught him how to be rude." "You don't have to worry, Sue. I'm used to his manners." Mia smiled. "Or lack of them." Rochelle added, laughing. I fixed her a dirty look. Adam gave me a look as if to remind me that he was right about Mia. "See?" He chuckled. I could see. I scoffed at him and scowled as he laughed and turned away, his attention already on Rochelle, the two of them talking and laughing as they are. "How are you, Ryan?" Mia asked in a bid to start a conversation as she always did anytime she was near me. "How do think I am when you have ruined my mood by being here? I'm miserable. Will that make you leave?" I stared at her. "Ryan," Mum gasped. "I'm sorry, Mia. He must have lost to Adam and that is why he is cranky." I snorted, wishing mum wouldn't keep apologizing to Mia and making excuses to her because I wasn't sorry. Mia wouldn't hesitate to be my girlfriend but I would rather die than date her.
