Chapter 22
Seconds passed before Lucius snapped to his senses and with an unexpected surge of strength, he shoved her away, catching her off guard. Eve fell back, her eyes wide with surprise as she landed on the floor.
"You ever touch me again," Lucius warned, his voice laced with authority, "and that will bring about your end."
Eve lay on the ground, stunned by the abrupt turn of events. Her voice quivered as she attempted to regain her composure, "You want me, Lucius... I can see it in your eyes."
Lucius clicked his tongue, shaking his head in disapproval. He leaned in, so their eyes were level, and his voice was cold and resolute, "Desperation has never been a good color on you. Now get out."
Eve wiped away the tears that had welled up in her eyes, struggling to regain her dignity. She slowly rose to her feet and made her way to the door, her posture defiant even in defeat. She paused at the threshold, her voice carrying a final, defiant note. "This isn't over, Lucius."
