CHAPTER 9 HARD CHOICES
JARED'S POV
"Sir, there's something I'll like to tell you," the maid said as she walked into my study. I tapped my fingers on the table as I raised my head from my laptop to attend to her.
"About Sabrina?" I asked, which made her look surprised.
"You know, sir?" A look of relief appeared on her face.
"No, I don't know why she's not at work yet," I said in the coldest voice possible. Why would she assume that I knew her whereabouts? And what was the suspense all about? I was probably too friendly towards her to give her permission to beat about the bush. "Just say what you have to say and leave this place," I added.
"Well, she told me some terrible things about herself a few days ago and even threatened to cut all my fingers. I just decided to let you know before she kills everyone of us in this house," she retorted in a scared tone, fumbling with the sleeves of her dress and smiling so sheepishly. "She's probably ill; that's why she's not here."
