CHAPTER 22 A SIDE OF SAMANTHA
With no other sound following after the crash, Samantha made her way to the door when Jake stopped her. “I’ll check it out.”
“This is my house.” Samantha insisted. When she saw that Jake wouldn’t let her be, she took a few steps back. “I think it’s the raccoons. On my bin.”
He nodded, then headed to the door. Samantha waited for him before he reappeared moments later.
“Nothing. And your bin is empty.”
She nodded. “Those raccoons must be disappointed.”
Shaking his head, Jake crossed the room and went to the sofa instead. It made Samantha feel even worse than she already did.
Had she been too harsh on him? Why was he suddenly so quiet-- like he was scared of speaking and offending her?
She sighed heavily as she lay on her bed, still clinging to her diary. She had forgotten it here, and the cleaner who had taken care of her apartment while she was gone had definitely read it.
She wasn't sure how that made her feel, but she was certain it was better than Jake reading it. Anyone was
