Chapter 935
Mateo sat on the bed, his body rigid, staring at Bethany and Elysia in complete silence. It felt like he might snap at any moment.
"Mommy, don't yell at Daddy," Elysia said gently, her voice soft and comforting. "Daddy's sick. I'm not mad at him."
Bethany's eyes immediately filled with tears. Elysia was so mature for her age, so understanding. It only made Bethany more upset as she turned her gaze back to Mateo.
"Daddy, you need to rest," Elysia continued. "I won't bother you. When you're hungry, I'll make you pasta. Please don't feel bad." She turned to Bethany. "Mommy, let's go outside."
"Okay." Bethany patted Elysia's back and gave Mateo a pointed look. "Think about it, Mateo. Is this really how you want to treat Ely?"
She moved toward the door with Elysia in tow.
Suddenly, he spoke, his voice breaking. "I don't have a dad anymore." His words trembled. "My dad's dead. I don't have a dad."
Then, without warning, he collapsed on the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
