In the morning, Bethany went to the Lawson Residence and met with George.
"Grandpa, I might be going away for a while," she said softly. She sat by the bed, peeling an orange, her voice reluctant.
"Going away? Where to?" George knew things were getting worse for him, and he hated the idea of having to say goodbye.
"To Myrthia," she replied softly. "I'll go for about three months. If it turns out to be good there, I might consider staying longer."
His eyes reddened. "Beth, there's less than a month until Christmas. Can't you wait until after Christmas?"
Bethany's lips curled into a pained, humorless smile.
Christmas was crucial to every Zephyrian. It symbolized both family reunions and new beginnings.
Yet, for her, where was her home now?
Her only family now was Samuel, who was still lying in the hospital. It might be in his best interest if she were to leave.
"They don't celebrate much Christmas there, and I've already delayed things for a while. If I put it off any longer..."
