Trystan's gaze shifted to Bethany's waist, his expression darkening as he finally understood what the flurry of bank notifications on his phone had been about.
"Beth, what a coincidence to see you here," Megan said charmingly from beside him.
Struggling to lift her head, Bethany saw Trystan, Megan, and their friends.
"Meg, why bother with her? Aren't you worried about tarnishing your reputation?" Megan's friend, Carmilla Wesley, interjected, her tone dripping with disdain.
She had also attended the birthday party a year ago.
Jenny clenched her fists and retorted, "Carmilla, watch what you say. Shut your goddamn mouth before I shut it for you."
"You!" Carmilla flushed with anger.
"Carmilla, let's not argue. Beth is still Trys' wife, and she's my cousin," Megan intervened, tugging at her friend.
"Meg, are you freaking serious? She's still hanging onto Trystan like a leech, yet you treat her like family?" Carmilla seethed, stepping forward to shove Bethany.
