It took Bethany a moment to realize Winifred meant Asher, causing her frustration to rise.
"Ash is not an idiot. He has autism," she said.
"Autism? That's just a nicer way of saying 'idiot.' They just feed you parents pretty lies." Winifred sneered.
"He's not!" Bethany shot back.
She instinctively glanced at Trystan, hoping he'd say something, but his face remained unreadable.
"Trystan, this woman is unbearable. How about we call the police?" Ruth suggested.
Trystan's blood was boiling. He couldn't understand why Bethany would let Asher be subjected to such insults, nor did he grasp Winifred's ranting.
Why had Bethany ever gotten tangled up with someone as low as Winifred, who could say something so cruel about Asher?
He shot Winifred a cold, hard glare. "Are you walking out of here on your own, or do I need to have you thrown out?"
