“Thank you,” Alison said as she lay back on the hospital bed with Jane’s help.
“Don’t worry, Alison. Trust that the police will bring you justice. You should try to rest for a while,” Jane said gently.
“Mom, I’m fine here. The doctors and nurses will take care of me. You should go and take care of your own things,” Alison replied softly from the bed.
Seeing her daughter being so sweet and considerate, Jane felt a sharp pain in her heart. She sat at the bedside, cradling Alison’s head in her lap. “Alison, I’m staying right here with you. I’m not going anywhere.”
Alison felt her heart ache, sensing the tears in Jane’s voice. She nodded gently. “Mom, I…”
Jane cut her off, patting her shoulder reassuringly. “Just rest a bit. I’ll be right here with you.”
After everything that had happened earlier, Alison was mentally exhausted and looked worn out. She leaned against her mother and slowly drifted into sleep.
