Chapter 5: Jenny's Plot
Aiden White glared at Alison with cold, menacing eyes, as if he were about to flay her alive.
"Speak up. What did you just take?" he demanded.
Alison kept her head down, her voice quiet.
“You already know, don’t you? Why bother asking?”
Oliver White hadn’t expected such a response, slamming the table in anger.
“I bet it’s something shameful, isn’t it?” Oliver’s voice was dripping with disdain, and his gaze toward Alison was full of contempt.
Only now did Alison notice what the scattered pills on the floor truly were. The box was clearly labeled as birth control, but the contents were nothing but Vitamin C.
Alison froze in disbelief. Her mind reeled, confusion overwhelming her as she tried to make sense of the situation. How had the pills changed? She clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms as she fought to remain calm under the hostile stares surrounding her.
There was no way Jane Lane had lied to her about this. So where had things gone wrong? She had bought birth control pills, but now they were vitamins. The reality of the situation left Alison speechless, unsure of how to defend herself.
Oliver sneered at her silence.
“You did this on purpose,” he accused coldly.
Alison’s mind spun as she faced his accusation, trapped by the malevolent looks around her. In the crowd, one person stood out—Jenny Black. Her smile was laced with malicious intent.
Then, as Alison tried to figure out her next move, Jenny spoke up.
“Alison, what you’re doing is wrong. I can’t keep helping you deceive Oliver…” Jenny’s voice was filled with innocence and guilt, as if she couldn’t bear the weight of her own conscience anymore.
“You made a mistake, Alison. You need to own up to it. No one will hurt you,” Jenny continued. “But how could you think about secretly having a child to force Oliver into marrying you?”
Jenny’s expression was one of pure-hearted regret, and her words had an immediate effect on the crowd. The people around Alison turned their hateful stares toward her once more.
“Alison, how could you do something so shameless?”
“My God, this is horrifying!”
“Alison is worse than the most wicked witch. She’s terrifying!”
“How could we ever live alongside someone so evil? She has to be thrown out.”
“Jenny is too kind, being deceived by such a vile woman.”
“Yes, Alison wanted to have a baby in secret just to force Oliver into marriage.”
As the crowd’s accusations grew louder, Alison’s face became more strained. The situation reminded her all too well of the past. In her previous life, everyone had sided with Jenny, painting Alison as a vile, foolish person.
Alison closed her eyes tightly, and when she opened them again, the sadness had disappeared. She had already experienced this once. She was used to it. She wouldn’t bother defending herself because she knew it would make no difference. No one would believe her anyway.
She turned her cold gaze toward Jenny, who was feigning innocence. But Alison caught the malicious gleam in her eyes. It became clear that Jenny had deliberately switched the pills. Jenny was far more devious than she had realized.
In the next moment, Jenny acted as though she were frightened, shrinking back and saying to Oliver with a pitiful expression, “Oliver, Alison only did this because she loves you so much. Please don’t blame her. If the media asks about this, just say it was me, alright?”
Alison couldn’t believe how masterfully Jenny played her role. Her performance rivaled that of a Hollywood actress, and everyone in the room bought it.
Alison realized now that losing to Jenny in her previous life hadn’t been a fluke. Jenny’s acting skills were unparalleled. Not even the best Hollywood stars could play a role as flawlessly as Jenny had for years.
But this time, Alison wasn’t going to fall for her tricks. She had lived through this scenario once before and had thought long and hard about how she could avoid repeating the tragedy.
Alison remained calm, her face expressionless, as though the crowd’s accusations weren’t directed at her.
Jenny, seeing Alison’s unexpected composure, was taken aback. Was Alison about to give in?
But before Jenny could process what was happening, Alison walked straight up to Oliver, her gaze unwavering.
She stared directly into his eyes, unafraid and without hesitation.
Oliver frowned in disgust, as if Alison were nothing more than garbage by the roadside. He idly twisted the gemstone ring on his finger, not even bothering to acknowledge her presence.
His disdain for her was palpable, with no attempt to hide it. From the very beginning, Oliver had viewed Alison as a vile and stupid woman. He didn’t even want to speak to her.
After a moment of intense silence, Alison finally spoke, her voice steady and calm.
