Chapter 49
AURORA.
Nathaniel and I had just entered the opulent auction when, to our surprise, we came face to face with Winter. My initial reaction was one of mild astonishment, quickly concealed behind a composed exterior. Honestly, at this point, it seemed he was everywhere. The last time I’d seen him was a couple of days ago when he’d come to my apartment to offer me a ride to work, without my consent, might I add.
However, Nathaniel's countenance didn't share my restraint. It darkened noticeably at the sight of Winter. His voice, dripping with annoyance, cut through the tension as he inquired, “Why are you here, Winter?”
Caught in the unexpected encounter, I maintained my composure but was aware of the unspoken tension hanging heavily in the air. Something was definitely going on between the two men. The tension was so thick I could’ve cut it with a knife.
