The hospital hallway was a blend of antiseptic scents and hushed murmurs as Thane, now within the walls of the medical facility, walked toward the room where Ysabel’s grandmother was being treated. He could not remember the last time he’d been in a hospital. Even when his father had died from a sickness, it had been within the confines of their homes.
The gravity of the situation sank in; this visit was not just about familial obligations but a chance to understand his wife’s world better. Maybe if he understood her relationship with her grandmother, he would be able to understand her.
Ysabel’s grandmother, frail but spirited, sat in her hospital bed, a small smile lighting up her face as he entered the room. “Ah, Thane, dear,” she greeted warmly. “It's so kind of you to come visit.”
Thane returned her smile, his demeanor respectful but reserved. "It's my pleasure, Mrs. Gracia,” he replied.
“Call me Consuela,” she said. “We’re family.”
