Chapter 30
AURORA.
The next day dawned with a mix of determination and apprehension. As the sun's rays spilled through the hospital room's window, I found myself choked up by emotions. Just seeing her lying there broke my heart. The surgery had been done last night after my altercation with my uncle and his wife. The doctors were optimistic about the operation but were waiting for Abuela to wake up first so they could run more checks to be certain.
I pulled out my phone to check my email in case there was any response from Nathaniel. There was, and I smiled as I read the brief email. He expressed his concern and told me to take as much time as I needed as he didn’t need me much at the office. Lola and Justin left me a voicemail saying that they were praying for my Abuela and hoped for a speedy recovery.
It was time for us to go. I wish I didn’t have to but I had to be closer to home, and I’d always wanted to bring her to New York to stay with me. Now that I had enough money, I could do that. B
