Chapter 73 - Traits of Treason
The gentle rise and fall of Babek's chest next to her did little to soothe Queen Sylara's wide-open eyes as she lay in bed and stared up at the ceiling. Under the sheets, she shifted uneasily, her thoughts racing.
The persistent suspicion about Jasmine would not go away, no matter how many times she attempted to ignore it. With his arm resting on her waist and a calm smile on his face, Babek slept blissfully until he awoke slightly.
With a gentle sigh, Sylara pushed the blankets away and slipped out from under his grasp. Haunted by the dilemma of loyalty, she was unable to lie there any longer.
Of all the people in the coven, Jasmine had been the one she trusted the most. However, the idea of treachery refused to leave her.
Sylara wrapped a silk robe around herself and padded gently across the room. With the intention of going straight to Jasmine's room and facing her head-on, she silently opened the door.
Her hand was lingering over the doorknob as she stopped at the threshold.
