Irene, the youngest in our group, looked disgusted by Faye’s comments about me. She continued with her food before dropping the fork to frown at Faye.
“Aunt Faye is just jealous of Aunt Claire; she knows the truth and just can't take it,” she chipped in with her own perspective on the issue on the ground. Her words were innocent yet insightful and touching, slicing through the tension like a knife.
“I don't think Aunt Faye deserves to be respected for such utterances! In fact, she shouldn't be called an ‘Auntie’ anymore,” she declared across the table. As a matter of fact, her eyes remained on Faye's face so she could clearly see her looks of disgust and disdain, pure and raw. I just so much love Irene.
“I thought we were friends. Why would you do that to me?” she asked, her expression faltering as she realized the gravity and heaviness of her strong and powerfully destroyable words.
