“You know what we’re going to do?” I asked Damien when he walked into my office. Our shared office space still showed signs of his recent injury; he was clutching his side but looked noticeably less bloody and considerably better. But it didn’t help—I was still worried, and I hated it.
“I don’t like the way you look, and I can’t stand thinking this is my fault. Thank you for the rose. It was pretty and thoughtful,” I said, biting my lip and looking away. “Have you ever gotten one before?”
His voice was low, causing me to raise my eyes to find him with a playful glint in those blue eyes. “I don’t know what to actually write. I can’t say that I had a dating life before I met you. I mean, no one else offered the cherry,” he shrugged.
His shoulders fell, but the playful glint didn’t leave. “So I’m the first in that regard and in the other thing,” he smirked as he walked over to his chair and slumped into it.
