Everyone knew a man's ride was his life; no way Emma would touch Ron's car without his green light.
She cracked a smile. "Just hit eighteen, still gotta get my license. No biggie, I ate a ton this morning; a little walk will do me good."
Carla said, "Cool, hit me up if you need anything."
"Thanks."
But Emma never figured that getting out of the villa neighborhood would take an eternity—a whopping thirty minutes.
Once out, she whipped out her phone for a ride, remembering Carla's words that it was tough to get a car here. She waited another eternity, nearly thirty minutes, before a driver finally took the bait.
By then, it was high noon. Emma hopped in the ride; smooth sailing all the way, about thirty minutes to her stop. She jumped out, hit a fast food joint to kill her lunch cravings, then off to the New Music Academy for her interview.
The receptionist at the academy was all smiles and politeness, gave her the rundown, even escorted her to the elevator. "Ms. Blue, floor eight
