Hesper's eyes widened. "Did she hide something from back then? I met the person, and he wants to repay her."
"Yes, but how does he plan to repay her?" Charles sounded calm, but it pained him to talk about the past. "The person he wants to repay is no longer with us. Is he going to pray for her?"
Hesper fell silent.
"Alright, I've answered you. She saved many people when she was young, but this was the last one." Charles paused. "That's all. I'm hanging up."
The call was disconnected after that. Hesper knew this was cruel. If Sullivan knew the person who saved him was deceased, how would he feel?
Hesper and Sullivan spent the next few days amicably. She would visit Simmons Manor every night, and Sullivan recovered quickly. A few words from him were enough to make Veronica cry.
This continued until the test results for the soil samples came back, and it was clear they exceeded the standard. Hesper and Rickard wasted no time in requesting a second test.
