Chapter 2

"Are you kidding me, Sera? I'm Jordan, your boyfriend!" Jordan held my hand again with a smile. He thought I was still putting on an act when he saw the fearful look in my eyes, and his tone became impatient. "I was wrong for pushing you into the ocean, but you don't have to act like this. You're fine, aren't you?" "My boyfriend? What are you talking about? My boyfriend is Damien Stone!" I shook him off and held a pillow before myself defensively. I looked at him, my gaze alert and sharp. I had no idea who he was! "What the hell did you just say? Who did you say your boyfriend was?" Jordan's eyes instantly turned bloodshot. He slammed a fist on the bedside table as he roared at me. Damien was his archenemy since childhood. He'd always come second to Damien, so he hated the latter with a passion. Damien's name was taboo around him. I looked around the empty room before turning back to Jordan, who stalked toward me, his face filled with fury. I cried anxiously, "Don't touch me! I don't know you!" This attracted some medical personnel. A nurse asked Jordan to leave the room and wait by the door when she saw how resistant I was to him. Meanwhile, a doctor checked me and asked me several questions. He told me to rest when he was done. Jordan waited by the door the whole time and calmed down after a while. When he saw the doctor leave the room, he stepped forward and asked, "What's wrong with my girlfriend, doctor? Why doesn't she recognize me anymore? She thinks someone else is her boyfriend!" "Her memories might be messed up because of the trauma to her brain. She should be better after some time, so don't agitate or aggravate her while she recovers," the doctor said. Jordan didn't buy it. How could he be the only one I'd forgotten? Once the doctor left, he charged into the hospital ward and pressed me to the bed, looking fierce as he snarled, "All I did was push you into the ocean, didn't I? Do you have to act like you have amnesia?" A few nurses ran in when they heard him and dragged him out. One of them looked at me through the window on the door and saw me curl up under the sheets fearfully. She turned to Jordan and warned, "How can you even call yourself her boyfriend? Stop aggravating her, or she'll never remember you!" He didn't take her words to heart. He wanted to see how long I could keep the act going. … My parents arrived shortly after to see me. Jordan was afraid they would find out about him pushing me into the ocean, so he hadn't even informed them about me being hospitalized. The Fray family was indeed influential in Jeriton City, but my family, the Yorks, wasn't weak, either. Besides, Fray Corporation needed my father's investment, and I was the company's chief architect. Jordan needed my family's money and my skills. He smiled at my parents and told on me, "Mr. and Mrs. York, look at Sera. She's pretending she doesn't remember me, and it's a pretty convincing act. She even scratched my arm earlier!" That scared Mom and Dad. They ran to me and pointed at themselves. "Do you remember us, Sera?" They were afraid I'd forgotten about them. I laughed when I saw how anxious they looked. "What are you guys talking about? Why would I not recognize my own parents?" They sighed in relief at my words. Heartache filled their eyes when they saw how pale I was. Mom stroked my face and said, "We heard from the doctor that you almost drowned and had to be rescued throughout the night. Aren't you afraid of the water? Why were you even near the beach?" Instead of answering, I screamed and ducked behind her and Dad at the sight of Jordan. I cried, "He's a psycho! Don't let him come near me!"
