Chapter 13
Jasper's mouth went dry as he thought about the few times he had claimed Evelyn. He snapped out of his daze when Evelyn said, "I'll leave you to your work, then."
Frustration, mostly at himself, washed over him.
"Oh, by the way—" Evelyn had only just turned around when she caught the deadly look in Jasper's eyes, and the rest of her words died on her tongue.
"What?" he bit out, impatience coloring his tone.
She bristled. The man certainly had his mood swings. Despite her inner grumbling, she hurriedly explained, "I left my phone at my aunt's place, so I won't be able to contact you. I was going to ask if you'd be coming back tomorrow. If you are, I'll get dinner ready."
"I won't be coming back for a few days," he said.
"Oh, alright." She left the study after that. It was just as well that he did not return to the manor for the next few days. At least she wouldn't have to wait on him, hand and foot.
