CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE - The Silence That Speaks Volumes
Logan's jaw clenched. "It's all tactics, Deonna. They're trying to rattle us, make us look bad in the eyes of the court."
"Well, it's working," Deonna said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm rattled. I'm scared. What if the judge believes all of this?"
Logan pulled her close, his arms wrapping around her protectively. "The judge will see the truth. They'll see that we're good parents who love our daughter. That's what matters."
A sharp knock at the door made them both jump. Logan rose, his posture tense, and moved to answer it. He opened the door a crack, then sighed heavily.
"It's Evelyn," he said, stepping back to let their lawyer enter.
Evelyn strode in, her briefcase clutched tightly in her hand. Her usually immaculate appearance was slightly disheveled, a testament to the long hours she'd been putting in on their case.
"I hope I'm not interrupting," she said, her eyes darting between Logan and Deonna.
Deonna shook her head. "No, please, come in. Do you have news?"
