CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY - IN THE LION'S DEN
Almost by accident, her hand caught on a small protrusion beneath the desk's surface. Curious, she bent down to examine it more closely. It appeared to be a hidden latch, barely visible unless you knew exactly where to look. With a mixture of excitement and trepidation, Amelia pressed the latch.
There was a soft click, and a small compartment sprang open on the side of the desk. Amelia's heart raced as she reached inside, her fingers closing around a small, cool object. As she withdrew her hand, she found herself holding an exquisite locket.
The locket was unlike anything Amelia had seen before. It was made of what appeared to be silver, tarnished with age but still beautiful. Intricate engravings covered its surface – swirling patterns and symbols that Amelia couldn't quite decipher. It hung from a delicate chain that had somehow withstood the test of time.
With trembling fingers, Amelia opened the locket. Inside, she found a faded photograph of a young woman with striking features
