Drakon was determined to let Shirley have whatever she wanted, whether big or small, logical or illogical. Even if that want was to be left out of an essential ritual preparation for the full moon.
"I just think she's under a lot of stress," Dahlia said as they all made rounds through the cities.
"That's understandable," Zack replied thoughtfully. "She's been through a lot in such a short time."
Drakon could only silently agree with them both, as his mind was busy with thoughts of her.
Back at the holding, Shirley stood watching a tiny brown spotted sparrow perch on one of the whorled branches of the fir tree right outside her window.
It was one of Drakon's many surprises, and he had planted it for her after the miscarriage, and it always gave her some solace to stare at it.
She breathed softly as the Dark Seer’s words rang out in her mind.
