18 The Confrontation

Sarah stumbled back from Zane as if caught on fire. She pushed against his chest and turned around trying to find Eric’s receding back among the people waiting for the valet to bring their cars. She felt Zane grasping her arm to make her stay and heard him say, “Wait! Sarah, tell me why you left before the dinner finished.” But she pulled her arm away and ran towards Eric. She needed to stop him. She desperately wanted to tell him that he was misunderstanding the situation. That this was not what it seemed but even in the throws of panic clutching at her heart she knew deep down and whatever he saw and whatever he thought was going on, there was at least some truth to it. That was the reason she had left the restaurant in a hurry because she felt getting pulled underwater by Zane’s charm and her own devious desires.
