Otto pulled out a handkerchief and wiped his hands before approaching Helen. In a low voice, he asked, "Are you alright?"
"Not really," Helen responded.
"What happened?" Otto asked, his eyebrow arching with curiosity.
"You arrived too soon," Helen said, giving him a sidelong look. "It makes me seem weaker than I am."
Otto chuckled softly. "I suppose my timing was less than ideal."
"Indeed," Helen agreed with a shrug. The silver needles she had brought were soaked and refined with a special hallucinogenic solution. They were more than adequate for handling someone like Fiona.
"This isn't what it looks like, Mr. Sheridan!" Fiona cut in, her agitation mounting as she observed their exchange.
She sprang to her feet, pointing accusingly at Helen. "This woman plotted for her sister to wear a red dress to provoke my father, nearly causing his death. She's as dangerous as a viper—don't let her deceive you!"
