He sighed dejectedly mid-sentence. "Given how much she seems to care about you, I'm afraid it's going to be difficult for me to win her over even if you no longer have feelings for her."
His discouragement stirred a sense of guilt within me. I didn't want to be an obstacle in their path to happiness.
I tried to lighten the mood and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Mr. Jones Jr., to be honest, you're not without hope.
"Sharon's feelings for me are more of an obsession. I believe that in time, you'll help her move past it. This sort of thing takes time. It can't be rushed."
