Chapter 4 She Must Be Found!
Mason left his sentence at that, but Claire could understand the threatening message hidden behind his words. She felt a little angry. She had quit her job because of him and had to follow his back all day.
The initial agreement was that they would have nothing to do with each other, yet now they were forcibly tied together. Claire was not happy about this as well.
However, she did not say anything aloud. She was in too much of an awkward position at the moment.
They continued walking in silence until they reached the main gates, where Mason was lifted into a wheelchair accommodating car. Claire instinctively bent down to enter the car, but Simon reached out and stopped her.
“Miss Schmidt, this is Young Master Yeich’s private car.”
Claire paused. “What do you mean?”
Mason turned his head over to look at her, mockery evident in his calm, deep eyes. “You’re still not qualified enough to be my assistant.”
Hearing this, Claire’s expression faltered. “What do you mean? Then why did you say yes to Grandfather just now?”
No longer paying attention to her, Mason shifted his gaze away as Simon, without an expression on his face, getting ready to close the car door. Claire reached out to block him and asked Mason, “Well, what will I do when you leave? Grandfather…”
A light glinted in Mason’s eyes when Old Grand Master Yeich was mentioned. He narrowed his eyes and stared at her dangerously.
“Simon, tell her the route. She can walk there.”
Claire, “...”
How could there be someone so evil?
Simon gave her the directions woodenly and without showing any other emotion, closed the car doors.
“Miss Schmidt, good luck.”
The car drove off after that sentence was delivered.
The wind blew haphazardly across Claire as she stood at the main entrance. The doorman, who had witnessed the scene, was now looking at her in pity.
Claire’s heart hardened as she faced the pitying glances directed at her.
Her hands tightened into fists.
Fine, she would go on her own.
In the car.
“Young Master Yeich, do you think we were too harsh on her?”
Mason frowned, the aura around him chilling. “Why don’t you go accompany her?”
Simon’s expression faltered. “Pretend I never said anything.”
Mason grunted as he used the rearview mirror to glance with a cold gaze over the petite figure standing at the gates. He withdrew his gaze, and his thin lips fluttered as he thought of something a moment later.
“Any news on the woman I asked you to locate?”
At the mention of the matter, Simon raised his fist to cover his lips as he coughed lightly. “Young Master Yeich, there were no cameras on that road, and it was raining heavily that night, the dark made it impossible to see the passers-by. However, give me some time, I believe I can make a clear identification.”
Simon felt defeated. He could usually do an excellent job in executing any orders Young Master Yeich gave.
However, it was this one issue that he could not get to the bottom of.
Sure enough, the chilliness around Mason intensified slightly. Eyebrows sharp, he said, “One month. If intentions were clear, the woman would be pregnant by then.”
Simon started. An unnamed, unidentified woman, pregnant with Young Master Yeich’s child? This was no issue to joke about. Simon’s expression immediately became serious.
“I understand. I will arrange for someone to keep an eye on the happenings at the hospital.”
Mason’s eyes showed that he was deep in thought.
He had never touched a woman before. The woman from that night was the first!
So, she must be found!
It took Claire a half hour before she arrived at Yeich Group.
Unfortunately, upon arrival at Yeich Group, Claire was stopped outside, the reason being that she had not made an appointment, so she could not enter the premises.
In North City, Yeich Group’s existence was equivalent to holding up the sky for North City.
The dominance of Yeich Group resulted in boosting the economy of North City. Fifteen years ago, North City was still a small, unknown city, but now it was heading towards the top.
When a group was as large as it is, it was not as easy to enter and leave as you pleased.
“Excuse me, could you please just speak to Mason? I actually am his new assistant.”
The receptionist looked at her in contempt.
“What is this nonsense? President Yeich has never required an assistant, the entire office knows this. Do your research before attempting to seduce a man.”
Claire started lightly upon hearing that. Mason had probably plotted it all, even if she managed to get here, she would not be able to enter the office.
“Get out of here. People like you don’t even have the qualifications to be one of our normal employees, and you’re here thinking that you can be the CEO’s assistant.”
The receptionist’s gaze became even more contemptuous, and the people next to her let out a couple of jeers.
“God, look at what she’s wearing. And she dares say she’s an assistant? Look at that cheap clothing she has on, not even wearing a uniform.”
“That’s what happens when the forest grows. You get all kinds of people.”
“If you don’t leave, we’ll be calling security.”
Claire’s face turned red after listening to their mockery. She bit her lip as she lowered her eyes to look at the dress she was wearing.
They were right. She had bought that dress from a stall when she went shopping at a night market. Back then, Claire’s monthly salary was never enough, and she had to scrimp and pinch to make ends meet.
All these years, she always thought she was living quite happily.
Yet today, after being reprimanded by all these people today, Claire felt quite embarrassed.
“Go home, go change, and make yourself presentable before coming back!” Everyone looked at her mockingly, making Claire feel increasingly embarrassed. Not knowing what to do, she bit her lower lip. Then, a gentle voice rang out near her back.
“What’s going on?”
Claire turned her head and her gaze collided with a pair of warm eyes.
“Vice president.”
“Vice President Yeich!”
It was Liam, Mason’s older brother.
Claire was surprised to see him.
Liam walked right up to her and asked in a gentle voice, “Have you come to visit Mason?”
Claire nodded in shame. There was no way he would not look down on her after seeing her in this embarrassing state, right? Her toes curled up together as the thought appeared in her mind.
“I’m sorry, I…” She lowered her eyelids, apologizing instinctively. “I seem to have brought trouble to your office…”
“It’s alright.” Liam took her hand in his. “I’ll take you upstairs.”
“Ahh!!!”
The minute he took hold of her hand, the onlooking staff let out gasps of surprise as they watched the scene unfold in disbelief.
The smiles on the receptionists’ faces slowly slipped off. They had originally thought that she was an ordinary woman, so they had laughed at her mercilessly, but who would have guessed that she and Liam Yeich knew each other.
Could it be possible… that this was actually the president’s new assistant?
Claire still felt restless after they had entered the elevator. Her heart skipped a few beats when she looked down and saw that her hand was still enveloped within Liam’s. She hurriedly withdrew her hand and took two steps to the side to put some distance between themselves.
Unbothered, a faint smile made its appearance on Liam’s handsome features.
Claire peeked at him.
His skin was very fair. He had chiseled features accompanied by a pair of gentle eyebrows and a pair of lips of moderate thickness. The gentle smile never left his face, and his white shirt was tended to so that there was not a single crease.
It was very pleasing to look at him…
Just as she was becoming fascinated by him, the elevator doors opened.
They had arrived.
“Take a right and walk straight ahead. Mason’s office is at the very end. I’ve got something else to do, so I won’t accompany you there. Do you think you can find the way yourself?”
Claire hurriedly nodded after she heard what he had to say. “Yes, thank you, Brother-in-law.”
“No worries.”
The elevator doors closed, and peace was re-established in the surroundings.
Claire took a deep breath and walked along the corridor to the end.
Finally, she saw the door to the office. Just as Claire reached out to knock on the door, it opened and an unidentified object was pushed out from within.
Claire did not manage to dodge in time and was hit square on. She landed on the floor on her butt.
The unidentified object fell along with her.
“Ah!!! Mason Yeich, how dare you treat me this way!”
Only then did Claire realize that it was a woman in disheveled clothing and heavy makeup who had run into her. After falling, she got up hurriedly and pointed at the person inside, cursing angrily.
Mason’s tall figure sat in his wheelchair. His eyes were as dark as the night, a powerful aura exuding from his body. His thin lips parted slightly,
“F*ck off.”
