Iris was already waiting at the main entrance of the hospital when Madeleine arrived. Madeleine had not come alone. Mason climbed out of the car after Madeleine with Lil Beansprout in his arms. Iris’s lips twitched when she saw that. She pulled Madeleine aside. “I really want to carry Lil Beansprout,” Iris said, “but I don’t think it’s a good idea to bring her into the hospital unnecessarily. The hospital is full of germs and superbugs. She shouldn’t be brought inside if she’s healthy.” Madeleine agreed with Iris’s point. She turned and held Mason’s gaze. “I think you should bring Lil Beansprout home first.” Mason pulled a sulky face and remained silent. “What is it?” Madeleine asked. “Are you thinking of bringing your daughter into the hospital, too?” “We can leave her with the driver temporarily,” Mason said with a poker face. Madeleine’s eyes widened in response. “That’s your daughter we’re talking about,” she said. “Are you sure you want to hand her to the driver? What if th
