Simon successfully calmed her worried heart. She looked at him and received his reassurance through his gaze. She nodded but turned to her mother with a pout. “I’ll go then. Don’t you bully him!”
Alba headed for the kitchen but kept looking back at Simon as if she could not bear to part with him. Simon maintained a small smile throughout all that as he kept reassuring Alba with his gaze. Sydney had been observing their interaction and she chided Alba inwardly with a glare.
Alba was reluctant to go and cut some fruits, but she had to do it as quickly as possible. She was worried that Simon would mess up if she was gone for too long.
Once she was done, she leaned on the kitchen door trying to eavesdrop but it was all quiet in the living room. She wondered if their conversation had ended so soon.
She came back out of the kitchen with a plate of fruits in less than five minutes to see that the other two people in the living room were sitting in awkward silence.
