Paris swallowed hard. No wonder his mother once said that everyone had a story to tell and he should be more understanding.
"I am… sorry to hear that," the silky voice whispered empathetically.
Maria inhaled sharply and smiled back at the prince. "I am alright. It was many years ago."
Smiling, Paris scanned their surroundings and remarked, "This is a nice place for you to grow up."
Maria shrieked in excitement, bouncing with joy at every syllable she uttered, "It is, is it not? And the people here are really nice! I cannot believe how fortunate I am."
Paris smiled a genuine smile. He took a few more sips from his cup as Maria shared about her maid, who she treated like her mother.
He replaced the cup on the saucer and asked in a casual tone, "How about Sarkon Ritchie? He is your…" He waited for the girl to fill in the blanks.
All of sudden, she turned quiet.
The sadness he was familiar with was back in full force in those emerald eyes.
