CHAPTER NINETY ONE – HER COVER IS BLOWN
Laura took a deep breath, steeling herself for the act she was about to put on. She forced a smile, hoping it looked more genuine than it felt. "I'm fine, really. Just... thinking about some stuff from back home. Nothing major."
Tina's concerned expression softened into sympathy. "Homesickness can be tough. Want to talk about it?"
For a moment, Laura was tempted to open up, to share some fabricated story about her fictional past. But she caught herself, remembering Logan's warning. Every interaction with Tina now had to serve a purpose, to further her investigation.
"Actually," Laura said, lowering her voice conspiratorially, "I've been thinking about making some changes in my life. You know, really putting down roots here in Miami. I was wondering if you knew of any opportunities beyond waitressing?"
Tina's eyebrows raised slightly, a flicker of... something passing across her face. Interest? Suspicion? Laura couldn't be sure.
